Tom Gussel, President and founder of Ad-Lit Inc., started distributing brochures in 1964 for Bud Gussel of Gussel Distributing (now Holiday Wholesale). Bud had been asked by several Wisconsin Dells attractions to distribute their brochures around town with his trucks. Ad-Lit began the following year with brochures loaded in the back of Tom’s 1955 Dodge truck and one young employee.
Among Ad-Lit ‘s first customers were the Dells Boat Tours, Original Wisconsin Ducks, Fort Dells, Storybook Gardens and the Indian Ceremonial. The first warehouse was a cabin at Old Newport Resort and Tom’s first desk, a pallet perched on top of six cases of brochures.
A little over ten years later, in 1977, the first Wisconsin Dells Travel & Attraction Guide was published followed by the Summer Wisconsin Travel Guide in 1989, the Dells/Delton Menu Book in 1990, the Winter Wisconsin Travel Guide in 1992 and Wisconsin Dells Seasonal Adventures Vacation Guide in 1997. Ad-Lit then expanded its reach with the advent of two major travel websites, Dells.com and Wistravel.com, launched in 1995.
Ad-Lit has grown from its humble beginnings to its present fleet of twelve distribution trucks, eleven routes run year-round and almost 230 print distribution customers.
